Pronounced (at least here at Jon Paul Jewelers) para-eebah, Paraiba Tourmaline is the dreamy blue green incandescent glowing stone that is more rare than a diamond and found in the State of Paraiba in Brazil. In the case of this stone, color is more important than clarity and inclusions are not important. Authentic Brazilian Paraiba Tourmalines over 3 carats are almost unheard of and can fetch as much as $10,000 per carat. In 2003, another source for "Paraiba Tourmalines" was found in Mozambique and Nigeria. These stones are nearly identical and are found in larger sizes and although they are called "Paraiba Tourmalines" the debate continues on whether they can be truly called Paraiba. The most desirable Paraibas are the glowing green blue colors with or without inclusions. We think they are fabulous!
